I also think that it is easier to remember new material when one combines learning with DOING a related project (gathering, assimilating and even using information, rather than simply relying on rote memorization).

I recently read that a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids can also help improve memory skills. So, perhaps snacking on foods containing soybeans, walnuts, wheat germ, eggs, or flaxseed would be a good idea as well.
